ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENTS AND ASSESSMENTS

An initial part of many projects is the requirement to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) or Environmental Assessment (EA). The requirements for these documents can be triggered by either Federal or State laws. RTP provides both managerial and technical assistance in the scoping, negotiation, preparation, and defense of Impact Statements. In addition, because various permit applications are based on the same information, RTP can integrate these efforts to ensure maximum efficiency and consistency. A typical EIS requires assessments for the following technical disciplines:

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION
Air Quality Biological Resources
Cultural Resources
Land Use
Noise Public Health
Worker Health and Safety Socioeconomics
Agriculture and Soils Hazardous Materials Handling
Waste Management Water Resources
Geologic Hazards and Resources Paleontological Resources
Alternatives Environmental Justice

RTP personnel have managed preparation efforts for Federal EIS/EA documents and State equivalent programs throughout the United States. RTP has worked with the United States Department of the Interior, United States Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs and State planning and permitting agencies. Our experience in these efforts have ranged from the fast track approach to one where a cost effective, defensible document is known to be necessary. Our efforts have withstood legal challenges. RTP personnel have been involved in the preparation of EIA/EA documents for capital projects in excess of four billion dollars.
